Main Objective
The Search for Outstanding Alumni aims to recognize and reinforce alumni contributions to their respective fields, related programs, affiliations and projects in both local and international communities.

Awards Details
The search shall comprise five (5) main categories that are anchored on the Core Values of Saint Louis University and that of its Founder Fr. Theophile Verbist, CICM.

Selection Process
Outstanding Alumni Award for Competence
COMPETENCE is described as the ability to do something successfully or efficiently. This award shall encompass a qualified alumni’s state of having sufficient knowledge, judgment, skill, or strength in their profession. Their capability to apply or use these sets of related knowledge, skills, and abilities for the successful performance of 'critical work functions' or tasks shall be considered. The nominated alumna/alumnus therefore:​

Has been in active service in the industry for a minimum of 10 years.

Has received extensive and additional training in the field.
-
Currently holds a top management position in the industry for at least five (5) years; or has held a top management position in the industry for at least five (5) years prior to his/her retirement.

Has established credibility in terms of affiliations and membership in related organization/s.
-
Must have been merited by a private/local/international award giving body for excellence in the field or whose works have been featured in a public periodical, credible website/news program or other platforms.

Holds a diploma under the industry s/he is currently engaged in or has retired from.
Outstanding Alumni Award for Creativity
CREATIVITY is defined as the ability to generate or recognize ideas, alternatives, or possibilities that can be useful in solving problems, communicating with others, and entertaining others especially for novel, varied, and complex stimulation. It is the capacity to communicate ideas, values and to solve problems in creative ways. The alumna/alumnus is currently or previously involved in endeavors that promote improvement in the programs of their respective fields, such as but not limited to Research and Development[1] [2] [3] [4] [5] (R&D), artistic craftsmanship, or having spearheaded/pioneered projects that support technologies/practices for the advancement of business, field, or professional processes. The nominated alumna/alumnus, therefore:

Must be a bonafide graduate of SLU (undergraduate or graduate programs).

Has been in the creative or innovation industry for at least 5 years.

Has demonstrated exceptional talents in creating effective processes and methods to solve problems or his/her works have value to the cognitive demands of the situation and have a positive impact on the community in general.

Has produced work/s duly recognized by credible award-giving bodies.
Outstanding Alumni Award for Christian Spirit
CHRISTIAN SPIRIT is defined as the experience of consciously striving to integrate one’s life without isolation and self-absorption with self-transcendence toward the ultimate value that the alumna/alumnus upholds. It is a behavior and encounter toward more healthy relationships with oneself, other people, and God. It is the conscious human response to God that is both personal and ecclesial. The alumna/alumnus must be in good moral standing and should live an inspirational life as reflected in his/her career, family, religious and personal life. The nominated alumna/alumnus therefore:

Actively participates in a Christian church or organization with a minimum service of 10 years.

Currently holds a a leadership role providing support and encouragement in the service of the Christian community.

Has served in a community mission for at least one (1) year.

Must have not been involved in any controversy and/or immoral undertakings that may compromise his/her overall moral character and has not been involved in any legal or civil disputes within the past 10 years.
Outstanding Alumni Award for Social Involvement
SOCIAL INVOLVEMENT refers to one's degree of participation in a community or society by promoting sustainable decisions through recognizing and communicating the needs and interests of all participants including decision makers. This increases acceptance of decisions and community commitment to outcomes as local knowledge from diverse groups shapes and creates inclusive, effective solutions. The alumna/alumnus must be an advocate of social and community development through public/charity works or contributions through published works like thesis/dissertation, regular contributions in credible publications, or book/magazines or similar platform. The nominated alumna/alumnus therefore:

Must be actively engaging with, volunteering for, or donating to local schools, neighborhood associations, government, and/or non-profit organizations (NGOs) for at least 10 years.

Must demonstrate qualities of compassion and service.

Must have continued/sustained excellent career performance while making significant contributions to his/her field of expertise/project/endeavor/cause.
-
Must enlist in at least five (5) charitable activities/events or service where any monetary or personal benefits have been received in return of his/her involvement.
Theophile Verbist Lifetime Achievement Award
Fr. Theophile Verbist, CICM, was an inspiring man who made a significant difference in the lives of Christians. Fr. Verbist was so dedicated to his mission that he sacrificed his health and well-being as he spread the word of God. He led missionary activities in Asia, a region which was not accepting of Christianity in the beginning. As the founder of Congregatio Immaculati Cordis Mariae (CICM), the CICM has been guided by the principle Cor Unum et Anima Una (One Heart and One Soul) in all its missionary work. An alumna/alumnus who embodies the work ethic and virtue of Theophile Verbist is a testament to the principles and ideals of the SLU missionary spirit. The nominated alumna/alumnus therefore:

Must have at least 10 years of documented accomplishments with significant impact on a large number of individuals and organizations.

Must have made significant contributions to the alumni, students, school and community of Saint Louis University. The contribution, which should address both social and environmental dimensions of sustainability, may be demonstrated in one or more of the following ways:

Programs and Projects: The individual designed or implemented one or more impactful programs or projects that have been beneficial to a wide community.

Products: The individual has developed tools, models, frameworks or other products used to advance sustainability or improved livelihood.
-
Conference Presentations and Publications: The individual has made meaningful contributions to the body of knowledge on higher education through conference presentations, published articles, books, etc.
-
Service and Mentorship: The individual has contributed substantial time and expertise to help build the campus sustainability community (e.g., by leading campus sustainability-focused organizations or networks, serving on relevant boards or committees, and/or mentoring others).
3. Must embody the four (4) core Louisian Values by displaying
the following:

Competence - s/he has held a top management position in his/her field of expertise.

Creativity - s/he has made a contribution to the industry s/he belongs to.

Christian Spirit - s/he is an active and current member of the Christian Community.

Social Involvement - s/he is an active and involved member of a related community organization.
Eligibility for Nomination
-
Must have completed a Bachelor’s/Master’s/Doctoral Degree Program in Saint Louis University
-
Must have completed their program of study from the years 1959 to 1973, in celebration of the batches covered in the first 50 years of SLU as an institution
-
Must have been issued a Certificate of Good Moral Character by the SLU Office of Student Affairs (OSA)
Process of Nomination
-
The call for nominations for Outstanding Alumni shall be announced via the Rambakan 2023 Official FB Page and other social media accounts.
-
The SLU Alumni Association Chapter Awards Committee shall initially screen and endorse the nominees who are under its particular School.
-
The nominator must not be related to or be affiliated with the nominated alumna/alumnus within the 4th degree of affinity or consanguinity.
-
The duration of nomination shall be from August 20, 2022 and closes on October 1, 2022.

A Google Link shall be provided in the announcement that leads to the Nomination Form, which must be fully completed by the nominator including the necessary attachments as follows:

2x2 Electronic Photo of the Nominee

Work/Project Portfolio of the Nominee

Three (3) Reference Letters from professional peers/colleagues or former/current co-workers to vouch for the Nominee’s Merits

6. The CV of the nominee shall include a cover page that will
contain a Profile Summary about his/her most significant
details as well as achievements. It shall be in a bullet form and
with no more than 300 words.
Process of Selection
-
The Outstanding Alumni Awards Committee shall conduct the preliminary screening to determine eligible nominees based on the Eligibility Criteria and the completeness of the submitted documents.
-
The Selection Committee, headed by the Alumni Association President, convenes to evaluate eligible recipient/s of the Outstanding Alumni Awards upon receiving the documents from the SLU Alumni Association Chapter Awards Committee. By the end of the selection process, the Selection Committee must be able to pinpoint one recipient for each of the awarded categories per School.

Criteria for Evaluation

The degree to which the services/ actions have made a lasting or meaningful contribution or impact on the community (40%)
-
The length and degree of service(s) (20%)
-
The extent to which the service or action might be considered above and beyond the call of duty (20%)
-
The extent to which the service or action would be recognized and valued by their peers/community leaders or members (20%)

Communication

Awardees will be notified by the SLU External Relations, Media & Communications and Alumni Affairs Coordinator.

Awardees shall be notified one (1) month before the formal awarding ceremonies.

Promotional and other marketing materials will be created.
-
Talks/PR will be arranged if any.
Appeals
The decision of the Selection Committee shall be deemed as final.
Review and Update
-
Debriefing, post-evaluation and review for and by the Outstanding Alumni Awards Committee shall be conducted on a regular basis.
-
Qualified nominees not awarded in 2023 may resubmit their Nomination Bids for up to two (2) consecutive years of not receiving an award.
